RICHARD NEWMAN
Virtuoso acoustic slide guitarist, author,
broadcaster, producer and advanced guitar teacher
Richard Newman was born in Kensington, London in January 1950. In 1967, he moved to Richmond in Surrey. Richard has been involved with Blues music for 30 years. He has produced and worked with some of this country’s finest guitar players.

In the early 70’s Richard put together 25 seven-hour live radio shows for Capital Radio.
These featured such names as:
Brownie McGee
Sonny Terry
Alexis Korner
Long John Baldry
Geoff Bradford
and
Brian Knight
Following this, Richard went on to produce a series of albums for the Black Lion jazz label, Freedom Records. At the end of the 70’s he put together an All Star album, which was recorded at Matrix Studios in London, featuring Peter Green, Charlie Watts, Ian Stuart, Art Theman, Dick Heckstall Smith, Brian Knight and Geoff Bradford.
Richard has written and presented his own Channel 4 documentary “Living With The Blues”.
As an author, Richard has written two major articles for ‘Guitarist’ magazine. The first on Peter Green and the second on the British Blues Scene. He has also written three books: the first on Mike Oldfield entitled “The Making of Tubular Bells”, the second on the Cambridge Folk Festival and the third on John Mayall.
Recently Richard has worked with poet Clare Crossman on the Fenlight project, which involved Richard composing a set of songs based on Clare’s poetry. He went on to record a CD of these songs.
As well being an advanced guitar teacher, Richard has also run Rock School events. He is available for individual advanced guitar lessons and will be running a series of advanced guitar seminars.
Richard is also available to give lectures on the history and development of the Blues Scene of the late 50’s and early 60’s, which was the scene from which the Rolling Stones, Cream, Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck, amongst many others, first found public recognition.

Richard's Current Project
Richard's current project is with the band Reportage. The CD called 'Brave On Lady' features the singing of international photographer Fran May, with the music, songs and lead guitar playing of Richard Newman. The CD should be available by the end of 2008.
